The USF Libraries’ Research Platform Teams (RPT) partner with graduate students and faculty in departments and across disciplinary clusters to promote innovative, collaborative services and drive research discovery. The teams establish deep relationships with faculty and graduate students, forging active partnerships through research, publication, grant writing, teaching, and informed collection management.
Librarian team leads will participate in a comprehensive approach to the research process.
The strategy combines librarians with subject expertise at or above the Master’s level with professionals possessing functional expertise in such domains as data management, GIS, statistics, AR/VR, design, 3D visualization, and more. RPTs assume responsibility for the collections that are associated with their targeted discipline/disciplinary cluster and are encouraged to teach credit-bearing courses in their assigned area.
We are excited to announce two new position in our emerging Research Platform Team (RPT) unit! Immediate RPT openings are available for qualified librarians in the following area: Digital Humanities. Successful candidates will join existing teams covering the Geosciences and History/Classics. Although experts in GIS, 3D technologies, and data management are already available to support the new teams, new RPT leads will each be invited to recommend additional professional hires to support their team goals.
A Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program in library science and appropriate experience as a professional librarian, consistent with university guidelines. Evidence of professional growth through publication, association activities or other contributions to the field.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A second Master’s degree in a field that is directly relevant to the position sought (you make the case in the cover letter); OR a minimum of six years of professional experience as a librarian serving the target audience

Tom is originally from Brooklyn N.Y but has spent his entire professional career in South Carolina, most recently as Head of Reference Services at the College of Charleston. As part of the Against the Grain and Charleston Conference team, he serves as the associate editor of the print ATG as well as the co-editor of the webpage. Tom’s conference duties include coordinating the Penthouse Suite interviews as well as the conference poster sessions.
He received his MLS from the University of Buffalo, SUNY and a second master’s in public administration from the College of Charleston and the Univ. of South Carolina. His wife Carol and he live in downtown Charleston and she is an artist and a tour guide offering historic walking tours of the city.
