book bindings imageAccording to “Past is Present” the American Antiquarian Society blog , the “MarbledMonday” hashtag is quickly “becoming one of the most popular regular features on the AAS Instagram feed.”

Every Monday, the AAS highlights “a striking example of what are the most colorful features on historical book bindings: their marbled papers, edges, and cloths…”

The “mystery of marbled papers, edges, and cloths” is discussed and answers offered as to how “an artist, working in the eighteenth or nineteenth centuries, produce such vibrant and extraordinarily complicated designs, over and over again?”

(Thanks, as always, to John Riley of Gabriel Books for providing ATG Quirkies!)
