This article in the New Yorker provides some well deserved attention for a website that has sat “on the margins of the literary world, where it has flourished for sixteen years.” The once secret passion of Michael A. Orthofer, a retiring fifty-one-year-old attorney, The Complete Review is his one man “selectively comprehensive, objectively opinionated survey of books old and new” that he started in 1999.
Interestingly, Mr. Orthofer didn’t even begin signing his reviews until ten years after starting the website. But he’s come a long way since then. Mr. Orthofer is publishing his own book with the Columbia University Press entitled “The Complete Review Guide to Contemporary World Fiction.” It will be coming out in April – so be on the lookout.
