ATG Quirkies: Only in Alaska: Whale Vertebrae and Beaver Pelts for Check Out at the Library!

by | Oct 14, 2015 | 0 comments

Need a wolf fur or a puffin pelt? All you need is a library card and a visit to the ARLIS library at least that’s according to Anchorage’s Alaska Dispatch News.

Of course this is nothing new for patrons of the Alaska Resources Library and Information Services.  ARLIS has been circulating “skulls, furs and mounted animals to the public — free of charge”, for years.  Celia Rozen, ARLIS collection development coordinator says that these items are popular with  “Boy Scout troops, parents, day-camps, scientists and artists regularly borrow from the collection.”

It’s another great example of a library responding to the unique interests of it community!

(Thanks, as always, to John Riley of Gabriel Books for providing ATG Quirkies!)
