Up for some challenging brain teasers to stimulate the old grey matter? Well a pilgrimage to Indiana University’s Lilly Library may be in order – at least according to the Atlas Obscura website.

The Lilly library is now home to a unique collection of mechanical puzzles or “brain-teasers that must be physically manipulated to achieve a specific outcome” making them more challenging “than simple jigsaws, or pen-and-paper mind games. “The unique Slocum Mechanical Puzzle Collection consists of over 30,000 puzzles all donated by lifelong collector Jerry Slocum, along with his collection of  4000 puzzle related books.

The Lilly Library website notes that “an online database of the collection is under development at the Indiana University Digital Library Program. Users may view images of selected puzzles by keyword-searching the database, or browsing the puzzle classification scheme developed by Mr. Slocum.”
