ATG Quirkies: Colorado’s “Literature Litterbug” blames Amazon

by | May 2, 2015 | 0 comments

books flea-market-237460_1280 at Melville House reports that Colorado’s infamous Literature Litterbug (aka the Bookdrop Bandit aka the Colophon Coyote) has finally been apprehended. Evidently Glenn Pladsen, an online used bookseller unable to unload his inventory decided to “dump his books along U.S. 287.”

Why did Mr. Pladsen resort to such desperate measures? The short answer – Amazon. It seems that he acquired thousands of books from a Boulder used bookstore about eight years ago and for a while was able to sell them online. But like a lot of over matched booksellers, he was ill-equipped to compete with Amazon.
