The Coordinator of Library Instruction is responsible for all aspects of Kimbel Library’s information literacy program. Providing leadership and vision, the coordinator works with information literacy librarians and faculty to integrate information literacy into the curriculum. The coordinator is responsible for developing new opportunities for library instruction by working collegially with faculty in all disciplines. The coordinator will oversee course-related instruction, credit-bearing courses and other venues for library instruction. The Coordinator of Library Instruction will supervise information literacy librarians and work closely with the Coordinator of Reference Services to balance workload and scheduling.
The coordinator will teach in course-related instruction sessions, credit-bearing courses, and will organize and participate in other venues to promote information literacy across campus. The coordinator will be responsible for collecting and analyzing data, assessing student learning outcomes, evaluating effectiveness of the information literacy program and reporting analyses. Tom is originally from Brooklyn N.Y but has spent his entire professional career in South Carolina, most recently as Head of Reference Services at the College of Charleston. As part of the Against the Grain and Charleston Conference team, he serves as the associate editor of the print ATG as well as the co-editor of the webpage. Tom’s conference duties include coordinating the Penthouse Suite interviews as well as the conference poster sessions.
He received his MLS from the University of Buffalo, SUNY and a second master’s in public administration from the College of Charleston and the Univ. of South Carolina. His wife Carol and he live in downtown Charleston and she is an artist and a tour guide offering historic walking tours of the city.
