EBSCO is pleased to congratulate Dana Whitmire, e-resource and serials librarian at University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio, on receiving the 2011 North American Serials Interest Group (NASIG) Horizon Award. The award, sponsored by EBSCO, recognizes a promising new information professional and covers the cost of travel, registration and lodging for three nights while attending the NASIG Annual Conference in St. Louis June 2-5, 2011.
The Horizon Award provides first-time NASIG conference attendees with the opportunity to advance within their profession by networking with other attendees from a wide range of fields within the serials information chain, including vendors, publishers and non-traditional serialists. The award encourages continued participation in NASIG conferences and events and includes a one-year membership to NASIG. Applicants must be first-time attendees of the NASIG Annual Conference and hold a position working with some aspect of serials within the information profession. Applicants submitted an essay addressing the 2011 NASIG conference theme “Gateway to Collaboration.”
“As budget lines for professional development shrink in all kinds of organizations, NASIG is especially grateful for our vendor partners who provide assistance to librarians for attending our annual conference,” says Katy Ginanni, president of NASIG. “The Horizon Award, sponsored this year by EBSCO Information Services, gives new information professionals the opportunity to grow professionally by attending some of the best programs on serials and electronic resources in the U.S. and network with other serials professionals while learning more about the organization that brings it all together.”
“I’m thankful for the opportunity to expand my knowledge and skills by attending the NASIG conference as the recipient of the 2011 Horizon Award, sponsored by EBSCO,” says Whitmire. “Without help, as a new librarian and mother of two, I would be unable to absorb the cost of travel to develop my career as a first-time NASIG participant. I look forward to attending and learning as much as I can at the conference.”
EBSCO has helped to sponsor NASIG conferences and events for more than 10 years and is participating in the Vendor Expo at the 2011 NASIG Annual Conference on Thursday, June 2.
